Cassinova and Damian arrive back at the manor after a few hours. I stay out of their way as they lead Morsa back to the attic. Once I know it’s safe, I go downstairs to see if I can get more of the story from Cassinova. What I find, I am not expecting.

I haven’t seen much of Mandy since that first night, and when I did, I usually just left her alone. But as I come downstairs, I find Aidan arguing with her while Damian watches as he leans against the far wall with a very slight amused look on his face.

“Things would be better if you left her alone.” Mandy is saying.

“We can’t do that. She d’be killin’ everythin’ she sees,” Aidan says.

“And good riddance. It isn’t as if mortals have any real purpose,” Mandy argues.

“Ye don’t mean that,” Aidan says. I can tell he is a little taken back. “Ye were once one of them, remember?”

“But that’s over now, thanks to you,” Mandy shoots back at him.

Aidan’s face pulls in annoyance and a bit of anger. “If ye like this life so much, then why do ye hate me for it?” He demands.

Mandy’s face is screwed up in anger. “Ugh!” She stomps her foot like a child throwing a tantrum and turns away from him. “I don’t know why I stay here. You all are such idiots!” She starts to stalk away.

“Amanda.” Damian speaks calmly and commandingly as he pushes himself off the wall.

“What?!” Mandy rounds, looking to bite off someone’s head. Damian says nothing. He just gives her a steely look, and she bows her head. “Sorry.”

“No one is forcing you to stay here,” Damian reminds her. “If you wish to leave, then do so.”

“I understand... Damian,” Mandy says then walks away quietly. I am shocked at how easily Damian was able to handle that.

Aidan lets out a deep breath, “Sorry, I sort of lost it a moment.”

Damian nods. “I did warn you about biting her.”

“I know. I know,” Aidan sighs again, frustrated and a bit defeated. He the perks up a little as he spots me. “Oh, Miss Kate. I’m sorry ye had ta hear that.”

“It’s alright.” I smile softly then I pause. “You bit her?”

Aidan looks a bit sheepish then nods. “I did, unfortunately. I... I wasn’t thinkin’ of the consequences.”

“No matter how many times I tried to warn you.” Damian shakes his head.

“Right, and it ‘tisn’t like you've never bitten anyone, Damian,” Aidan snaps at him.

Damian’s facial expression doesn’t change at all. “Still, your situation with Mandy is different. It’s her age, or rather, the lack thereof that’s made her the way she is now.”

Aidan sighs again in defeat. “Ye’ve said before.”

My curiosity gets the better of me, and I have to ask. “So... why did you bite her?”

Aidan smiles at me a little, a bit embarrassed. “I wanted a child. ‘Twas before Nicholetta was born, before I’d even married Cass. Mandy was an orphan when I met her. She'd be scared at first as all children are, but she got past that quickly.
